The Girl Who Found a Way to University

A moment from the life and lessons that eventually shaped Koa.

Story KOA-STORY-002 · An editorial adaptation of earlier founder writing

Leaving Hawaiʻi to attend university in Oregon was one of my early choices for myself. I have written about scholarships, several jobs, my student loans and completing a Psychology bachelor's degree in three years. I had to keep finding a way forward.

What this chapter taught me

The skills I gained mattered. So did the belief that hard work was always the answer. It would take years for me to understand that being resourceful is different from believing I need to exhaust myself to deserve a better life.
