What Mauna Kea Asked Me to Remember

A reflection on place, heritage, service and spiritual meaning.

KOA-STORY-052 · A personal reflection adapted from historical founder posts

While living on Hawaiʻi Island, I felt increasingly connected to my Native Hawaiian roots and to the care people were bringing to Mauna Kea. I wrote about supporting those who were advocating for the mountain and about my own spiritual understanding of its significance.

How this shapes my idea of aloha

My descriptions of sacred grids and energy are personal spiritual experiences, not a scientific claim about the mountain. What I carry forward is the responsibility to listen, respect the land, honor the people connected to a place and contribute with humility rather than treating culture as a backdrop for a brand.

Reflection

What does respect and service ask of you?

Where does care for a place ask you to listen before you lead?

Your own traditions and experiences deserve to be met with respect.
