Chapter 4 · Freedom by design

Bali Was Not a Vacation Postcard

A lived business and freedom lesson from Leimomi.

KOA-STORY-036 · Adapted from historical founder writing

After leaving Hawaiʻi with four suitcases, our family traveled toward Bali. I wrote about being surprised by the heat, traffic, unfamiliar rhythms and the real work of finding our feet in a new place. We followed the call of the journey, but everyday logistics came with us.

The deeper business lesson

Living somewhere instead of vacationing there changed my understanding of freedom. We had to learn, ask questions, adapt and respect the people and places around us. The point was not to romanticize hardship or other cultures. It was to be present enough to learn from reality rather than a curated image.
