Chapter 2 · Choosing love and beginning again

Learning to Be a Mother While Rebuilding Myself

A founder story about living the values behind Koa.

KOA-STORY-019 · Adapted from historical first-person founder writing

After leaving my former community, I became a wife and mother while finding my footing in an unfamiliar chapter. I have written about exhaustion, adjusting to a new place and the immense change in identity that came with caring for a baby.

What I carried into the next chapter

I had been skilled at caring for clients, members and organizations. Learning to care for my own family while also receiving care challenged old habits. I gradually began to see that my own needs were not a distraction from service. They were part of the life I was building.

What about your own journey?

Where are you learning to receive the same care you so readily offer other people?

Your experience can be different from mine and still lead you to an important decision.
